Is this a one off or has the replacement been numerous. David why should the spring break on the resting tail as apposed to the coil.  | ||

Patrick, I suspect the probable cause would be an internal fault in the rod used to make the spring. The most likely cause would be either internal non-metallic inclusions or surface defects such as laps/seams resulting from the rolling and drawing of the wire rod. In your case, internal non-metallic inclusions triggering a fatigue/brittle fracture would be my prime suspect for the cause of failure. | ||

Thanks David for the advice, have fitted a s/hand one while the seat was off. will put it down to a one off event! |
