My Turbo R was running a little cool. Being brainwashed by the propaganda that I must replace the thermostat every two years, I did just that. (I have never replaced a thermostat in my daily drivers with over 600000 kms covered).
All was well for the first few months then stone cold again. Can you spot the problem?

thermo

Yep jiggle valve stuck in the opening. Is this a new one?
You try to do the right thing...

A classic example of Murphy's Laws applying to cause the greatest inconvenience from a problem one would not expect to occur.

The question to be solved is how the "jiggler" managed to get into this position.......

Can you spot the problem.

Yeah, It's bent which is a problem.

The bigger problem is that it is still sitting in my key tray in the kitchen. I think I have a spare clip on a caliper out in the shed.

I am confused. The thermostat is most likely non-genuine since it is impossible for the jiggle pin to get over the top of the valve disc on a genuine unit.

As to the brake disc bending, they are not expensive and are a standard fitting for many cars. But why did it bend?

Bill,
The thermostat was supplied as a genuine replacement by one of our favourite UK based suppliers. It is stamped waxstat (made in England) and even came at a genuine price too!
The plastic bead had a tail that has since had a date with the Dremel. I will feel no remorse searching an aftermarket replacement in future.

I would just snip the jiggle pin off a little hole will do no harm.

I only replace stats when faulty-- very rare.Easy to test.
