This is a hoary subject because in general most engineers say no. However some additives do work. A useful range is the ones that soften lip seals and expand them a bit. These additives are fussy where they work. Steering boxes seem to like it but racks don't. Autoboxes respond well. I use the additive until the leak stops and 50 miles for luck. Then change the oil. But eventually the seal will leak again.
