Ahem. Is not the tachometer of a '74 a mechanical instrument, driven by a cable like old speedometers ? A good instrument specialist will make up a new cable inner if it has broken.

RT.

I think Rodney asked the question , not Ahem.

A good instrument specialist will make up a new cable inner if it has broken

If he can find it!

RT : No, 1974 not 1964

Rodney, Not sure off the top of my head where it gets it's signal etc. from though. Sorry.

Rodney, I think you were clear - I was talking about the Tachometer.

RT - That's better , you've got the right year now I see - and the electronic Tachometer. well done.

But can you find the wiring diagram - that might be more useful to Rodney!

Hello Paul and Richard, Sorry!! I never thought the rev counter worked with a cable, With me not having dismantled anything yet I have no idea.
Thanks

Rodney,

Sorry for any confusion caused. I don't know why we have gone from calling the Rev Counter a Tachometer. They are of course the same thing.

Sometimes we forget to keep replies to a non-technical level where possible. :-)

I think you will find the speedometer works with a mechanical cable, the Rev Counter works with wires.
