Allan, Before you do something you might regret later, get an ordinary thermometer and once the engine gets to ordinary operating temperature and stabilises [say 15 minutes driving], stop open the bonnet and measure the temperature on the top of the radiator and on top of the thermostat elbow. Keep driving the car until the temperature gauge starts to climb, stop and measure the temperatures in the same locations and see if there is any appreciable difference. The purpose of this test is to see if your coolant temperature sensor/electric fan cut-in sensor is faulty. If my memory is correct, the Spur has electric fans to assist cooling and these should cut-in as soon as the coolant temperature exceeds the set value and you should check to see if these are operating when the gauge starts to climb as the fans themselves may be shutting down for some reason. Please advise what you find. |
