Hi, The right-hand front brake on our 1991 Mulsanne S squeals when the brakes are applied at low speed. The squeal is LOUD! The L/H is OK. It is Ok for one to two miles then it starts squealing. The disc (rotor) was replaced in 2018 since when less than 5000 miles have been covered. I have rubbed the disc with medium wet and dry paper. I tried chamfering the edges of the (Ferodo) brake pads, (replaced 2017 less than 6000 miles of use), to no avail. I have now fitted new Ferodo pads (again). Still squealing. Copper grease has been applied to the back and sides of the pad. The pads are free to move when the pistons have been pushed in a little. I can sense that one of the front brakes is a little slow to release. Less than a second. I have a couple spare leading & trailing used callipers. Before I swap them over does anyone have any ideas please? Many thanks, Darryl |

Just curious , I wonder what would happen if you swapped them left to right? They would then be working in the opposite direction. Mike |

Is there any possibility there is a mix of "hard" and "soft" pads installed on the RH front calliper? There could have been an accidental mixing of pad types before you purchased them - unlikely but should not be ignored. . |

If you can beg the use of an MOT brake tester, do the brakes pull up and release evenly ? |

I had noisy pads even after replacing as well. I was pointed to a factory shim, used on the Shadow, but still fitted to my 96 conti. Brake Pad Shim (UG12435). Ordered from Introcar. Zero issues since and inexpensive.

Thanks for everyone's input. The brakes squealed after a period time with the previous pads. The new pads were sealed so hopefully were all the same. Car had MOT in July no advisories. I have ordered a set of shims from Heaven's Gate in Germany. Introcar were out of stock and FS listed as no longer available. Fingers crossed Regards, |

Shims arrived today so will fitting them in the next couple of days. According to the Mintex website "Lubrication is only vital in the area of the contact points of the pad and on the guide shafts." Also as I understand it copper grease should not be used. The back of the Ferodo pads have a pad so the piston does not press directly onto the pad backing metal. Question. Do I apply a little Mintex Ceratec, which I have 'in stock' to one, none or both sides of the shim(s)? There's are a lot of conflicting opinions on the internet and it's decades since I fitted pad shims. Regards, |

I could find no instructions, so the Ceratec was smeared on both sides of the shim (1971 Bentley T). The squeal was cured. Alan D. |

Thanks again to every one. Doug's suggestion of fitting shims has, (I hope), stopped the squeal. It would appear that both sides were noisy. Regards, Darryl Watson |

So happy to hear that! I've put about 1500 miles on since putting the shims in and still no issues.
