Does anyone remember seeing a bit with photos showing removal and restoration of a rear crossmember? I am in the beginning stage of reading about this as I am tempted to repipe the rear CM on the 1970 SS to stop leaks of precious RR363 once and for all. I thought a review of this topic would help (or discourage?) such an endeavor.

Randy,

I know what you're talking about. Someone posted photos of a rear crossmember sitting on a garage floor and discussed making new hard lines for same as part of his rehab process.

That may have been on rollsroyceforums.com, but I have yet to find the "magic search keywords" to turn it up there. I'll have to keep thinking upon what might have been said and trying to get the right combination of search terms.

You are correct, Brian. The context was that I asked if anyone had a photo of the rear subframe out of the Car, showing the piping more clearly, as I was searching for a leak. I can't find the excellent photo supplied, which was most helpful.

It is not needed to remove cross member.

Remove rear seat.

locate plastic nuts that cover the self tapers that hold the pipes in place.

Cut holes in appropriate place to access pipes.

unfortunately the bottom of the seat will get wet so dont drive in the rain.

or using 12swg al loo min num fashion covers.

None of underseat metal work nis structural

Also the floor above the rat trap.

God only knows why RR didnt do this when new.

The rat trap cover cannot be removed by a Mot Tester because car must be tested as presented no parts may be removed and the inspection hatches for the rat trap cant be seen from below. The gas pedal pivot and the rear of the rat trap is attached to this bit, so using 100mm steel brace it, use M60 bolts to make sure it doesn't move and its somewhere to tow the car.
