Gents.
I just wanted to pass on what my Silver Shadow & I did yesterday.
Going by the paperwork, 3 years ago and 8,500 miles (SRH12255 speedo odometer is in miles with an inner speedo in kp/h) ago 4 new tyres were fitted and a wheel alignment was executed.
Yesterday my local tyre guy had an opening and I decided to just get a wheel alignment done and 4 wheels balanced.
All I can say is WOW.
Even though my steering wheel was a tad off centre when I accuired the car, but never pulled or did anything wrong, and has soaked up bumps like they were not there, and the car right on 110kp/h there was this slightest of vibrations felt through the seat base.
When we removed the tyres we spun them up on the balancer and the rears were between 40 and 90 grams out. The Goodyear Eagles really show no wear at all so that was a bonus.
We balanced all 4 wheels to a true zero (some machines accept and show zero at 7g or less) and refitted.
As I said WOW the car that has always been beautiful to drive and steer is now almost perfect for a 44 year old car.
The motorway up to 140kp/h was just awesome.
If it's been a while since you have done a wheel balance and alignment, please go and do it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Pat, 100% agree on this.

Our car's suspension seems to have plenty of wear/imbalance compensation built into them. Clever engineering. When Rolls hunting, I was surprised at the level of wear found in ball joints, mounts and bushes when the car itself still drove quite nicely.

Still shake my head at Rolls' 28-24PSI tyre pressures. "Crash in comfort"??- no thanks.

My SRH16373 received new rubber and alignment last year thanks to the previous owner and I'm always amazed how silky smooth and quiet she is at speed. Have nudged 140km/hr once, while my impressed passenger buddy and I chatted in our normal voices. The big 6.75 nicely telling us she's a V8.

I drive a somewhat boring but zippy 1999 Merc C280 shopping trolley and that car makes no qualms of sending every pothole and ripple on our awesome (sarcasm) QLD roads. The Rolls simply devours them for breakfast!. These two are worlds apart. Our cars are one of a select few that leaves us feeling better after the journey, than before it.

Am planning a big road trip next month- from Brisbane to Adelaide via Syd and Melb, to see Dad who's been unwell these last few years. He's keen to savour the Rolls. And May is a mighty-fine time to be touring too.

Everybody- what "shopping trolleys" do you drive??.

Nick,
I run my car at 28, I find it a good compromise. Anything over 30 does tend to transfere a bit more into the cabin area when I run over cats eyes in the road. 28 just makes them quiet.
Your right the big Rolls devoures pot holes, and I feel this is why some are so well worn and even damaged. The cars end up getting driven in and over everything as it handles them so well.
The road trip sounds great mate.
Keep us posted of your whereabouts.

Sorry.
My trolley is a company car, new model X Trail.
It rides like a billy cart, sounds like the crank shaft is going to pop out as it rattles it's ring out when starting, and the leather seats are as flat as a biscuit, and shinier than my head.
My daughter who is 21, sits in the back when we occasionally pick her up from work and has to hold on, as she slides everywhere on the totally unsupportive flat and slippry seats.
But is extremely good on fuel.

Pat, I hear you with 28- it does give the classic quiet ride and isn't too low and wallowing. 24 is pushing things and I don't think any tyre company recommends that anymore?. I just run 32 cold front-rear and all's good. I guess different brands have different sweet spots.

Will keep updated on the roadie :-)

Depending on where you live your tyre pressures may change. If you run your tyres at 24 in Dubai you risk death in the summer. My tyres run at 32 to 35 psi because safety is more important than comfort.

My Shopping trolleys are a VW Multivan T5 and a 2002 Ford Thunderbird. They are only driven in the summer when it is too hot to cook the Rolls-Royces and Bentleys.

Want to have my Cars' alignment checked. Did you have any trouble getting this done? Did you have to take your own shims, or what?

Hi Randy,
The workshop I use for my SS & 25 Chev is very good as he specialises in hot rods, old cars etc, and unusual cars.
He had everything he needed.
My car wasn't pulling or doing anything untoward except this minor little vibe felt through your bottom at 110kph.
So maybe he didn't need any shims as it was already within spec?

But the balancing was what has made it now perfect.
