Does anybody know where the interior light delay unit is on a 1970s Shadow 1? The relay is easy enough to find, it's behind the dashboard on the left-hand side. But there's no sign of the delay unit. I would have thought they would have been next to each other (as in the diagram) but no that would have been too easy! It's not possible to trace the wire as it disappears into the loom. I've got a horrible feeling that it will be in that box of relays hidden behind everything in the engine compartment. Please tell me it isn't! |

Bob It isn't. Well at least it isn't on my 74 SY1. I attach a photo of the interior map of the relay box. The delay unit may have been moved there post 1974 of course, but I would think that was unlikely. Sorry I can't help you with the actual location of the delay unit. Geoff |

Bob, There was a thread entitled Relays that you were heavily active in where Jeffrey McCarthy posted this picture which makes direct reference to the courtesy light delay unit. I hope your car is the same. Brian |

Bob, This thread, Interior Lights Keep Switching On, has some information that might prove helpful as well. Brian |

Hi Bob, has it ever worked? 70 might be too early. I think they are usually behind the dash above the front passengers feet. |

Thanks everybody. It looks like it might be hidden away up above the glove box then. Yes I well remember that relay thread, but I searched for it and couldn't find it! My courtesy lights have suddenly started to stay on all the time. One strange thing I did notice is that the relay (not the delay unit) is mounted on insulated rubbers. I checked with a meter and the relay case is actually 4 volts above Earth. This explains the insulated mountings, but I wouldn't expect the case to be connected to any of the terminals at all. That's asking for trouble! Further investigation needed! |
