It has to be cider. First the picking up of the apples, 1922 is the year. Picked apples ready for pulping. Storage barrel. More cider apples delivered maybe, lorry with no cab in all weather for the driver. Solid tyres that must have been bumpy Some sort of cooler on the wall! Full barrels in the local siding waiting for the train.

Aaaah, Scrumpy Alert...... I see the cause of many future hangovers. The pleasure followed by the consequences. Cursed be those who do not drink - when they wake up in the morning, they know it is the best they will feel all day!!! |

Love these old pics guys. These people knew how to work back then, this generation have NO idea what older folk have been through, and what they had to do to earn a living. |

Wise words David. Feeding cider helps, bread cheese shallots, however it will have you in the end of a proper session! Patrick R. How about early days, ploughing with a car and the horse in the background pix 3 for backup as the thing always got to hot and broke down.

Patrick L I've never seen a car used for that mate. I could imagine it would overheat pretty quick in that situation. I recon my 25 Chev would be done in 30 minutes doing that job. Great pics Pat. |

Yes We will come too but with our own pure Somerset cider. I will drive the governess cart there, the horse will know the way back. The wife will have her best tea cosy hat for warmth. |

Love the pics - especially the lorry, what a bone shaker!!! Throughout history we as humans have always been as intelligent, stupid, energetic, lazy, resourceful, inventive, practical as we are today. Only our tools have changed. |

A farm tractor but for many uses. Being used here for driving a shaft through the wall to power the apple mill. Never heard of the make! |

Time to have a run to Stonehenge and to drive up to the stones, can't do that now. Singer and Morris Oxford [bullnose] The rear of the first car may be a Hupmobile.
