Afternoon chaps, I'm just wondering where I might be able to find a kit to rebuild an early Shadow heater tap? It looks very similar in design to a Rover P5 tap, for which kits are readily available. Any advice would be much appreciated. Davide |

I think the top (gold / pressed) are the same but the body (cast) part is different. It depends what is wrong with your tap. Often the cast body corrodes internally so you can't turn off the water, or allows external leaks. I haven't seen any other makes that use the 2BA mounting casting though I did buy a new one fairly recently, but was about £75 So cheaper if you can repair it! It's in a lovely place to get to! |

allo Paul, it appears to be leaking from the linkage end, but i haven't had a very close look. the rover has an extra linkage, but i imagine the diaphragm would be similar. 75 pounds... was that for the complete assembly? |

I think so, I'll have to check. They were out of stock @ R-R for years, and used ones were that much or more. |

Hello, I was recently checking for a few misc. parts and I found that Hyphen Auto Repair was advertising the water taps. Looks as though they're asking a little more, but they may have some advice or source. They have always been very helpful whenever I've gotten in a bind http://www.hyphenrepairsinc.com/parts.htm |

That Ebay item is not a heater tap. It is the suction throttling valve for the refrigerant. It has nothing to do with the heating part of the system whatsoever. The suction throttling valve us usually deleted or blanked off these days, and the compressor clutch cycled to regulate the refrigerant using a new electrical switch instead. Any automotive aircon shop will do its own conversion for a song during a routine refrigerant service. I notice that the service bulletin on the STV has been in the Technical Library for a considerable period of time already. R. http://rrtechnical.info/sy/bulletins/servicebull.htm |

ps: US$80 plus shipping and taxes for that useless part of an antiquated STV, the casting which only gives trouble if some ham-fisted idiot breaks off the bracket, is Disneyland stuff. They are long-obsolete anyhow. I fitted a new STV to our T-Series around 1990, only to be annoyed that I hadn't simply done the superior upgrade at a fraction of the price. The most usual upgrade nowadays, when the compressor has become unserviceable, is to fit a brand-new Sanden 7-cylinder variable compressor which does all the functions internally and all by itself far more efficiently. That is the SDV-series compressor featured in the Technical Library under: http://rrtechnical.info/sz/sz87.htm or go straight to: http://rrtechnical.info/sz/sz87/sanden7series.pdf That applies to every car fitted with air conditioning, whether it be a retrofitted Derby Bentley, a Trabant or a Conti T. Best of all are the Sanden TRSA-Series scroll compressors. RT. |
