Just trying to pull the starter motor out. Workshop manual is not so helpful (remove the three bolts...). Trying to find the third bolt - someone has suggested that it may be coming in from the back, and there are only two at the front. Do anyone have any experience pulling these things out - I should say that mine looks smaller than the one in the manual, so perhaps a replacement itself. All the best from NZ, Daniel |

Hi Daniel My car is a 74 Silver Shadow so your engine should be the same. Yes, the third bolt is accessed from the rear. I used a long extension with a universal joint and a socket. I positioned myself under the car, level with the front seat. I took some pics, which may or may not be helpful.

This topic from when I replaced my Lucas starter with a gear reduction type might help, particularly the photo of "the hole" where the starter gear goes in to mesh with the ring gear, which shows the holed for the 3 retention bolts around it. Thanks Geoff and Brian, this has made my day and determined my weekend! I've never encountered a starter motor with a bolt in the rear before... |
