Hey all, hope everyone is well... So, my quest for another one continues. I have been watching one online, on ebay for about 4 months now, and so far, there have been no bids, and repeated listing by the dealer. its a 1997 Brooklands in Magnolia. Seems like a nice car, I have spoken to them, and even had a friend of mine who lives in the area stop by to look at the car. The dealer seems to have good info, and the car comes with some repair history. Before I spring for the inspection costs, and bid, what am I not seeing? 1. Its been online with no bids, being listed over and over for many months. 2. Is there something wrong with it that I am just too naive to notice? 3. Is it just not a diserable colour? 4. Maybe people are more interested in the Turbo R? Anyway, I just cant figure it out. Is the seller willing to allow an independent inspection by an RR/Bentley specialist on your behalf? If so it wouldn't be money wasted - the worst that can happen is that you find it's a lemon and you've saved yourself money and grief. More likely you'll get a list of things which need attention: at least then you'll have an idea of the real cost. I'm not from the States but I'm sure someone from over there can give you a few pointers towards an appropriate inspection place near St Louis. If the dealer absolutely refuses to allow the inspection chances are something costly is being hidden. There seem to be quite a few of our cars coming onto the market over there since the economic downturn, maybe it's just a bargain. Hi Jason, I don’t think it’s uncommon for these cars to stay on the market for a ‘long’ period of time… it’s a fairly small market. So they don’t tend to move as quickly as say a Toyota (especially if its accelerator pedal is jammed on). If you’re happy with the price, colour and your friend didn’t see anything noticeably wrong with it, an inspection (specialist) seems like it would be worthwhile. Good luck. Craig. | ||

The car had lots of miles put on it during the last couple of years. To me, that indicates it was a reliable driver. And, as the 30k maintenance was just done (verify with St Louis Bentley) that's off the list of worries. Their listing indicates they'll allow an independent inspection, and as there's a local Bentley dealer there, why not take advantage of that opportunity? Your friend's well-meaning eyes are no substitute for a professional evaluation. | ||

Arghhh - I hate the preview / Post on this site. Briefly - if the colour and price is right for you get it inspected, and if happy buy it. Also - make sure that it hasn't been in a flood. Flooded cars can be made to look new, but will continue to have electrical problems etc. | ||

seems ridiculous to put a car like this on ebay.... Jason maybe the colour is putting people off, magnolia with tan is not really a great colour combo these days, but this is now just opionion. Who would know why people are not bidding??perhapes the buying market for these cars is simply not prepared to buy them yet on 'ebay'.... or has never thought to look on ebay..WOW. Speaking for myself I never would buy ANY car let alone a RR or Bentley on ebay... far too risky I reckon but again roll the dice and take the chance you could just pick up a bargain. at any rate, its got a light pressure turbo engine so will be quite quick though not as fast as the Turbo R. If you like it Jason get it inspected for piece of mind and buy it, there is nothing anyone on this forum can tell you that you 'could be missing'. None of us would know as none of us can inspect it in the flesh. good luck Cheers James | ||

Many things go on ebay for the exposure, but not expecting it to sell on there. I'd be happy to go and inspect it, but not in the flesh! lol ;) |
