The ACT Branch held a most successful event at the home of the Editor of Tee One Topics on Saturday 7 August. The theme was Shadow hydraulics and systematic maintenance. Considerable interest was shown in the 'old' and 'new' RR363 and copious quantities of the former were used to flush the systems on a number of cars. Further inspections revealed one car with serious leaks in the levelling assemblies and detailed explanations were provided for bleeding the single master cylinder at the rear of the brake actuator assembly on very early Shadows. Another car was found to have blocked rear brake supply lines, probably the result of the disintegration of the 'rubber' cushion in the deceleration valve. It was also pointed out that systems can need bleeding even though they have not been opened. This is caused by nitrogen leaching through the accumulator diaphragm and shows up as a significant change in pedal 'feel'. |
