Hello all, I have successfully obtained a replacement headlamp lens for my 1934 P11 93TA and would now like to try for an original or authentic bakelite coil and lead containment assembly. Any assistance in obtaining these would be greatly appreciated. I shall attempt to obtain a picture of the desired item, however people with one spare would know what I am seeking. Best Regards, Peter Toet |

Peter, You could try Jack Barclay in the UK who may be able to point you in the right direction; l.html,http://store.hrowen.co.uk/category/Rolls_Royce/Rolls_Royce_PHANTOM_II_1929_1935,l.html The Vintage Garage in the USA have a world-wide list of suppliers: http://www.vintagegaragevt.com/id12.html Note this list includes a specialist US supplier of coils and bakelite items, RR Coils and Bakelite Items: River Carriage Shop 440 333 0561. Hope this helps. |

Peter The coil by River Carriage Shop is a repro look-alike with modern innards, sealed for lifetime. A friend of mine also had the misfortune of a cracked headlamp lens that he successfully glued (I do not know what sort of glue he used). The crack is now almost invisible, at least the expert at the MOT-station didn't reject it at the test. Jonas |

Peter, I think you are going to have a very difficult time finding an original coil and containment assembly unless you happen to talk to a pre-war specialist who happens to know of one or starts you through "the feeding chain" in order to find one. Download the RR & Bentley Parts, Repair, Restoration & Other Resources Compilation and search for "PRE-WAR FOCUSED or SPECIFIC." The last three entries in that section would be worth touching base with for your search. Brian |

Found an original mushroom-top bakelite coil for my 20/25 hp last year at the RREC annual rally flea market. Cost £ 150 plus cost for rewinding. Jonas |

Hello all and thank you for your assistance and interest in my quest. I have ordered a new re-manufactured authentic looking coil from The Carraige Shop in Ohio. Mr Charles Tobin is a Rolls-Royce owner/enthusiast and was most helpful. The cost of the coil was $US285 plus $20 for a resistor plus $58 for freight. I have included a link to a review on the item. I shall probably have to manufacture my own "authentic" lead containment channel. http://www.gilfuqua.com/articles/River%20Carriage%20Coil.pdf Best Regards, Peter Toet |
