As you all know... AX201-60551, AX192-60540, AX205, and NMR-8 60552 were all photographed nearly a century ago on June 21, 1907 at the famous Cat & Fiddle Hotel while the cars and particularly 60551 were on the way to the Scottish Reliability Trials that would establish the Rolls-Royce reputation. I am tracking these cars in the hope of recreating the even a century later. Having all four cars pose infront of the Cat & Fiddle June 21, 2007. AX201-60551 still exists, of course. Ax192-60540 vanished in 1938 in England, but the registration plate was switched to 2013 which still exists and is in Kansas NMR-8 60552 was exported to the U.S. after the photoshoot of 1907 (The owner not knowing his car was used for publicity!) to the Seligman family in New York City. They bought a second Rolls-Royce in 1928. I am contacting the family so see if it is hiding out on a farm somewhere in New York. AX205 reputadly still exists, and am trying to find that car. In either case, remember the only suriving 30 Hp 6 Cylinder Rolls-Royce was found in Australia in 1948 (#26355) Perhaps either 60552, or AX205 (#?) is hiding somewhere in Australia. If you know about these chassis or have an old article or advertisement, please let me know. Contact me through this post or send information to me at: Drslinc@comcast.net Thanks Doug. (Ps I've 3.5 years to find the other cars...it's all in fun and a good bet. I may be trodding a path someone else has taken, but so did Howard Carter...and he found King Tut's treasure on the last day he looked....!! I will keep everyone posted of my progress and success.) |
