Hi,
Can anyone shed any light on this '72 Shadow for me? I am looking at buying it but there is no log book so I want to ensure it is an Australian
delivered car before going any further. It has been converted to LPG.
Thanks

Hi Lawrence,

This car does not appear in the Australian Club records for the last 10 years - I suspect from the LPG conversion that it has been a hire car so check for high-usage front and rear seats for possible confirmation - privately owned Shadows usually show a marked difference between the front and rear seat condition. This assumes the seats have not been "tarted-up" by a proprietary leather treatment.

Can you track the ownership through the LPG conversion records? These are well documented for registration purposes.

If you are serious about the vehicle, you will have to obtain the build sheets from either Hunt House or the US RR club;

Thanks for your advice David. The drivers seat is in poor condition and the back seats are OK but quite stained in places, plus both arm rests on the rear doors are loose with the smokers requisites being very loose indeed. Nothing that can't be fixed and it is 36 years old!! I have a gut feeling though this may just be the tip of the iceberg! Maybe I should keep looking.

Hi Lawrence,

"One picture is worth a thousand words"

I withdraw my suspicion the car might be ex-hire - the seat condition is consistent with a well-used private owner vehicle since new. However, the chassis cards should be checked to make sure it is not a Hong Kong delivered vehicle; the problems with these vehicles have been detailed in this forum over the years.

I would investigate the LPG trail as I suggested previously - I doubt if you can access the past registration records due to the ubiquitous Privacy Act however if you find a way to do this then I and other contributors would appreciate the relevant procedure.

I suggest you have the vehicle inspected by a recognised R-R/B specialist before committing to the purchase.

I edited your post to improve the layout of the photographs; it is good practice to use the enter key twice to space down the item when inserting material as shown above.

Regards
David

I've been wanting the build sheets for my car (SRH 1964) for a while and finally decided to get them. Couldn't get the above link to work, but found the info here:
