It is bleakly flattering that I have had quite a number of complaints recently about the Technical library. Until recently a small band of scanners, collaters and processers have spent many many hours preparing material for uploading to the Technical Library. The complaints I have received are related to disappointment that material forwarded to Richard Treacy or myself has not appeared on the web site. Recently the software for the library has been changed to WIKI. . This is a system that provides for interchanging information on the web site itself, designed originally I understand for scientific writings but now being availed of in many fields of interest. Unfortunately neither Richard nor myself seem able to structure the library in a useable way for a variety of reasons so no further uploading will occur until we sort out this impasse. Both of us are determined to get this material to the general public which includes any owner or repairer which may have need for it so to the contributors who have forwarded tomes of scanned documents to us, be assured that it is safe, that all the material which we have managed to allocate in a suitable location onsite is also safely stored and when a solution is found to the hiatus, it will all be properly placed for reference.

Oh dear, I am cited as a villain and own up to my huge mistakes here. I should have heeded the warnings quoting the woes of so many other Wiki sites and avoided it in the first place. Bill, I am sorry to have embarrassed you, your being the Technical Library manager. The worst of our present system is that it is randomly incompatible with some browsers, particularly Safari but also for many Explorer users and configurations. Firefox seems mostly alright, but there are reports of disasters there too with our present system. On the workers’ side there are operational issues, for example I have nowhere to place an S2 Flying Spur owner’s handbook at present. Shall I lodge it under Handbook for First Series MkVI Cars ? I have quite some DVD loads of information, which have been scanned by eager contributors and processed by myself awaiting loading for months now, so please be patient, Bill. The entire present technical library is on archive here, and I have checked it for completeness today. As soon as a new platform is decided I shall load all the present and future technical information as a batch. All we need is for our service provider some raw web space to park data in a structured manner, then just a standard HTML Technical Library home page for the technical library with properly indexed links. What do you think ? Reverting to the system before the present one is no option, so I suggest we freeze the present one until we can find a simple and proper alternative, then discontinue the present system progressively. An RROC(A) Federal Council meeting in early November will address - and hopefully resolve - the current standoff (and legal concerns) regarding the RROC(A) website Technical Library. Sadly, until then no progress can be made. |

Now that we are near the end of November, how did the Federal Council meeting go? Any further progress on this topic? Leho |
