Hey all,
Just completed a round trip penang-singapore-penang in my '68 Shadow as part of our wedding anniversary celebration. Luckily the car performed very well, cruising happily at 110-130kmh and returning 15+mpg over the ~900 mile trip. We drove 4 legs - Penang-Malacca -Singapore - Kuala Lumpur - Penang and spent 2 days in Singapore (spent being operative word). Very pleased with the reliability of this ancient relic, quite a comfortable long distance car.

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary and the road trip. I presume you carried out a good service on the car before you started out. Any pics?

The car has been off the road since 2017 because of a change in Malaysian roadtax rules...it now costs USD4000 per year for the annual tax.
I rebuilt front brakes, new flex hoses, selected new hard lines, brake reservoir overhaul, carburettor rebuild.... Nothing too major.. fitting hotter spark plugs (BP4), as I read here, made a huge difference to idling misfires.
I would upload pics if I could make it work.. but here's a few Instagram's

Went the other way this time... Into Thailand and over to Krabi on the west coast.
Car still running fine on Malaysia gasoline...but likely have to fill up with Thai fuel, which is weak ethanol juice...

What a pleasent annerversary celibration, how many years?

Your anciint rellic (as you call it) looks in fine shape. The roads look pretty good to, or is the "other way" where the ride of a Rolls has its merrits.

I do like the colour scheme. Love a two tone.

That mundane Nissan behind you can't hold a candle to your ancient relic.

I do not like new vehicles and their ugly front ends with the air scoops showing for all to see.
Clunky is another word I would use "lumpy potato" "jelly bean"...

20 years wedding anniversary...

The roads in Thailand are not so bad, the road users are....shall we say ..creative..
Most are driving pickup trucks and most of those are overloaded with farm goods or wood. When they are not rolling over they are driving down the verge or performing u turns randomly. The shadow's brakes performed well...it's less-than-sharp handling requires concentration.
Anyway, all good. Now driving on Ron95 with 10% ethanol... A little lumpy when pulling away, but cruises OK.

20 years, well done. Developing into solid innings.

Perhaps the Rolls is the same. How is the suspension holding up?

Do you know what colours it it? Would mind taking sharing a few pics of the combination?

Suspension is all original it only 60K miles, some noise from the left front which I need to investigate. At the rear it has rubber spring assisters to recover the sag.
Got back home with only one failure- the park circuit on the wipers failed...wipers work, but won't park...
Here it is parked at Trang looking small amongst the normal Thai road users.

Colour is Shell Grey over Dawn Blue with the Scarlet interior

Mission accomplished, 1500 miles with no significant failure. Now the road tax expires and it has to go back in hibernation.

Thanks, I'm looking at acquiring a Silver Dawn that is Midnight Blue, almost black. It has a dark blue interior so sort of stuck what goes with blue. I'd like to put a two tone colour scheme on it but honour its original order, Shell Grey is looking very likely.

Its surprising how big cars have come. I recall a Shadow having a sizeable presence in its day when I was a kid. Nowadays what is marketed as a small car matches what the family sedan was in the 70s almost. Small cars of the era like a mini, or Holden Gemini, perhaps a Ford Escort are like matchbox cars in comparison.

I had a teenage mate who’s dad had a shadow, Caribbean blue with while interior. Fine looking car until you opened the back doors. He and his sister had drawn all over the upholstery with felt pens, a white board so to speak with kids art work the colours of the rainbow. I recall the mother just rolling her eyes when quizzed. They were pretty cashed up. To them it was just a family hack.
