Old proverb - "A fool and their money are soon parted". Just another example for the record book. |

David, That article states, "The Rolls-Royce brand built custom bodies on rolling chassis for more than four decades after it was founded in 1906." Refresh my memory about this. I recall RR having a number of "preferred partners" that built custom bodies, but not that they were doing much of this themselves in the early days. Brian |

If it has chrome plated plastic knobs, I wouldn't pat 2 cents for it. But from what I can see, at least the front end doesn't look so much like an SUV/truck. |

Brian, To the best of my knowledge, you are correct. The only "in-house" custom bodies by RRMC I can think of would have been for Royalty and other Heads of State and even these most likely would have had input from the preferred RRMC coach builders. I hope there are one or more forum members who can provide more details. |

Might depend on how you define it. Rolls Royce bought at least two of those partners (Park Ward and Mulliner) over time. |

Jeff, I'm aware of this, but it's the specific time frame the article gives that's the issue for me. I don't recall RR making coachwork, period, during that era. Their thing was making chassis then those went to the coachbuilder of the buyer's choice to be fitted with coachwork. Brian |

Rolls-Royce never made a complete car until the MK VI Bentley. Arthur Sidgreaves the MD wanted to start building them in the late 30,s, and in 1938, he, FC Honeyman and Harvey-Bailey persuaded the board to buy in all the remaining shares of the failing Park Ward were were heavily in debt, so that craftsmen would be available after the hostilities.
