If a thread looks to be becoming overloaded with images, there is a simple solution. You can always save the file as a PDF (*.pdf) or WORD (*.doc) file etc, and upload it using <Upload Attachment> to give the user the option to view it or not. Like this:

The steps to prepare graphics in Word (*.doc) in case you cannot prepare PDF files are: Prepare the graphic in the normal manner for posting. That means: Size the graphic in your picture editor to be between 200 and 640 pixels wide, and maximimum 480 pixels high, and maximum 100kb file size. Now the simple part to prepare an uploadable file: Open a new word document and add the graphic. Depending upon your software, it will be roughly <Insert><Graphic><From File> and select your graphic. Save the word file and post it to the message board. If you would rather post in PDF format, use the free software to generate PDF files available on: http://www.easymarketplace.de/freepdf-2.0.php?Area=SAPGenie Once downloaded, this outstanding software is for offline use and has no popups. |

This is a test of a tweak of the Forum software.

Now to see if JPGs are still handled inline. Ummm, no they don't anymore. (That's a GIF you're looking at.)

Thanks to everyone who has suggested solutions to this problem. It looks like we can have JPGs as inline images or attachments but not both. A future release of the Discus Forum software will address this problem but for now this is our only option. Personally I'd like to force them to be attachments, but for now I've restored the original behaviour. (Message edited by admin on January 27, 2006) |
