I don't own many Rolls Royce related items I think it's this jacket and a book or two.

I bought the jacket because with a jacket like this one thing is clear, you don't own a Rolls Royce.

The headlights light up red with LEDS powered from a 9v battery awkwardly located in the right pocket dangling from a wire.

Ross,
this jacket is so bad it just became a “must have” on my bucket list.
I can only imagine the look of horror on my family’s face when going out in this.

I know one member of this forum that would wear this jacket, I am not saying who it is, only that they live in Dubai.

LOL
He would wear it with pride Omar.

Not just because it was a gift from you, but it is SO bad he would love it more.

If I had it, I would put a flasher system in it to make the lights flash, to draw even more attention to it

It's a pity that a miniature sound system would not be appropriate - maybe just for tyre noise plus a ticking sound???

I was hoping someone had something worse, but now that I think about that, I don't know if that would make me feel better or worse.

I think one could probably convince a seamstress somewhere to put a steering wheel on the right side so you could wear it in Australia and not look like a fool.

Ahem, yes Jetsetters, that jacket has Omar written all over it. Indeed, notice the camber of the wheels. Thats a dead set sign for middle eastern drifting. I could see Omar wearing that jacket with the full desert headgeartogether with hooded falcon. Bloody superb! Its brash and flash just like Dubai.

Ross do they make them Camargue style?

Ross,
I feel I could regret answering that question (a medium by the way). Finding another wife at 50 (as mine would definitely throw me out if I ever wore something like that) will not be that easy.

On a side note : we are on holiday in Tenerife as I write this. My wife forgot her nightie, so I lend her my Silver Shadow t-shirt. She never looked so good :-)

Vlad,

Sorry mate it was a "medium" and I only had the one. Custom embroidery is cheap and so are satin windbreakers ( in some circles) so a similar such abomination should be possible.

I would suggest making the car embroidery bigger as it was only 7" wide. 9 perhaps.

The width of the car also tells you this is not an original factory item as the originals made by the Crewe upholstery shop would have obviously been 6.75".

Also, my wife in addition to everything else in her large and eclectic skill set
also knows how key designs in Punto for embroidery machines.

The car depicted also shows the grill with the 4 cm wide center bar and the silver on black grill logo only used on the model year '63 shadows exported to czechoslovakia.

What's really interesting (at least for those of us with partners who are insanely into sewing and machine embroidery) is there are machines (and there's one in our household) that can scan photographs and convert them to a machine embroidery pattern that's awfully close to photo real, but a tiny bit more impressionistic.

One could do one's own personal jacket like the first one but with one's own car embroidered (and color appropriate LEDs for the headlights and/or turn signals.

I have friends who collect vintage (as in around the turn of the 19th-20th century through the 1920s) "place pillows." The oddest one they have is from a sanitarium.

Sometimes things are in such awful taste that they're a must have!

Dear Brian,
Could your partner embroider faithful replicas of Vlad driving a Camargue on a T shirt? perhaps we can buy a job lot for our next UK tour T shirt. Last year we bought Silver Shadow shirts, maybe 2018 can be the year of the Camargue.... with Vlad at the wheel.

The inspiration will have to be Ross's jacket..... so none of this exact perfect embroidery. It will have to be purposely trashed to look like Ross's jacket.

Yes But Ross, we need the Camargue jacket to have that drunken look just like the RR in your photo.

Omar's jacket should have the words "I Saddam" as he had the opportunity to buy the Saddam Camargue but he screwed the pooch. Also, the words " Sir will be baity" across the back at the top may be an idea.

Naturally, mine should be extra large to hold at least two six packs of Vodka for medicinal purposes.

Precisely, what is all this chatter about Birmingham?

And if sir will be baity - will there be a pouch for the brasso in this jacket?

The above statement will only make sense to hard and fast "Derek and Clive" fans (which I know Vlad must be by virtue of him using one of their famous quotes).... talk about a sense of humour.... it took me years to get it - but I firmly get it now.

Dear Vlad,
There is a topic called....2018 UK Tour & Birmingham Classic Car... in idler chatter.http://au.rrforums.net/forum/messages/16947/28653.html?1518914536

Go to it and join us in our second reunion.

I know the owner of the Saddam Camargue but the price he wants of the car is way above what the car is worth. so no dam for me.....

To ask for $180,000 AUD for a perfect condition Camargue is pushing the envelope Omar.

To ask that price for a molested Camargue albeit owned by Saddam who did naughty things and thereafter upset Uncle Sam and the CIA well that's major woodduck hunting.

The vendor is clearly delusional and will be keeping the car perhaps forever unless a James Bond movie features one blowing off a Ferrari and machine gunning the help, while hot babes pull xrated acts in the back seat consuming copious quantities of narcotics.

Great idea however I would want to do an "Alfred Hitchcock" .

What you may ask?

Every film Alfred Hitchcock made includes at least one scene where he appears as one of the cast - spot Alfred is "de rigueur" for his films.

Lovely of you chaps to encourage me to be a writer.

The problem with this matter is that writers have to deal with two types of pure swine, editors and publishers.

Its nasty business receiving rejection slips and not getting paid and it is indeed a mamouth task just to get your work looked at. Unsolicited manuscripts are not often welcomed and become fodder for shredders.

I would certainly like the loot attached to successful writers but would avoid fame like the plaque. Successful artists often become shooting targets for complete nutcases eg John Lennon.

Perhaps one day but right now swinging spanners brings in loot to live on and loot to build my car museum in the outback.

So right now I am heading towards being a curator.

Again thanks for your kind encouragement.

Just look at what the mailman brought !

Thank you very much, Ross. I really owe you.

I can't believe I am now the proud owner of this fine piece of clothing. Also my family is so proud of me now. I can see the tears in their eyes when they see me in it.

Now, I could post a picture of me wearing it in my living room, but that wouldn't be very courageous. Therefore, I will do the following : early in April we will be going to Knokke, which is sort of Belgium's answer to Montecarlo, Beverly Hills and Dubai (check out the excellent Zoute Grand Prix https://www.zoutegrandprix.be/en).

In the city centre you have the Albert Square, better known as the Square "Have you seen me" due to people showing off their cars, trophy wives and wealth. It will make the ideal background for me showing off this classy jacket and I will share the pictures on this site. I just have to convince a family member to take the pictures and thus acknowledging in public that they know me.

Of course I will also take the jacket to our get together at the NEC in November. Omar, I might even let you wear it then.

Thanks again, Ross. You made my day !

The whole forum is gutted that there is only one of these masterpieces to go round.
Also Benoit you are such a sport to want to share the delightful jacket with me in Birmingham this November. After I wear it, the next lucky owner will have to be of Russian descent.

although ........
perhaps Richard from Ireland could be an interim custodian. We will have a job to get Richard into this small jacket but we can try welding a few lycra strips in the two sides.

You know they say that nobody owns a Rolex - they are merely custodians of them for someone else? well this Jacket is the same. The only part of it any of us may own is the 9v battery.

Bring on the jacket.......

I will even include the 9v battery for the jacket's next custodian to enjoy it to the full right away.
One condition when accepting the jacket is that the new custodian will have to post a picture of him wearing the jacket in a public place.

Benoit,

Zet het op de Manneken Pis en fotografeer het ding. (met de lichten natuurlijk)

Also, the tradition of Rolls Royce ownership involves each custodian leaving at least one socket under the hood. Keeping with that tradition, I would suggest pinning a local souvenir button or patch to the jacket (perhaps a waffle?)

Dear Ross,
I really need to know where you got this jacket from. The entertainment it has given us has been tremendous. We cannot function with just one of those - so we need to know who the manufacturer was to get a larger one to fit Richard. I know Richard and I know he would be gutted if his turn is skipped because the jacket was too small to fit him.
The other reason to know who maker was - was to make sure I dont buy anything else from them......

Omar my not so dear friend, my stature has to do with the effects of gravity pulling me down for the last 76 years, I actually would be all right if someone could add several inches to my height amongst other places, as for the jacket, I cant wait to see it on Benoit, Ross knew what he was doing when he got rid of it I think his purpose was to provoke tension between all the Nations of the World represented in this forum, anyway if there is a size XXL going spare put my name on it.

Omar,

This jacket is actually quite common in the United States. You can pick them up in most any store in dozens of colors.

It is not uncommon to be in line at the bank and there are two or three people wearing the same jacket.

So to answer your question, I don't remember where I got it, Etsy? It was somewhere online, just google rolls royce satin jacket.

I have searched the nether regions of the internet but can not find a Bentley-themed jacket to match the exquisite taste of the Rolls Royce item. Does anyone know of a source of such artisanal clothing?

Ross,
your Flemish is absolutely perfect

For those who couldn't understand what Ross wrote : he suggested putting the jacket on Manneken Pis, Belgium's national symbol.

The Americans have Mount Rushmore, the French the Eiffel Tower, the British Big Ben and the Belgians have a statue of a .... peeing little boy. Yeah, who said the Belgians have no class.

The gash clothing virus is well entrenched in this forum.
I think we need to get some suitable material together for our next meeting in November 2018. That illuminated red coat that Patrick has found is the ultimate minus-one in gash. The ultimate has to be Ross's dream find (which is now in the custodianship of Benoit).

Each to their own with gash clothing but I will keep mine a secret until the big day........ with the aim of outdoing Benoit.

And if i find a his and her matching pair - i will get the other item for Richard.......

Omar,

The quest for the worst clothing in the world related to the best car in the world.

Great idea, sometimes we find our hobbies, other times they find us, and even other times they come from forums about Rolls Royces.

I'm sure your item will be a superlative effort.

Benoit,

As you might guess, google translate and the only other two items I know about Belgium.

I can't wait for the November picture.

I still had a promise to fulfill and that was wearing the jacket in a public place.

These were taken today in the centre of Knokke, Belgium's upscale coastal resort.

I have to admit that I wore it only for a short period of time so we could take the necessary pictures. My son Alec however seems to be more of a man than I am, as he took a tour of the town centre with the flashing lights on.

My recently deceased 'significant other' had an embroidery business. I still have contacts in that trade. I can get top quality work done on a variety of very serviceable garments. They would al be the same as a multi head machine is used. Contact me in some way if this is of interest.

OK gents - The Jacket has done its time with me and now needs to go to Australia.
It started off its life of fame in the USA, then went to Belgium , then the UK and then Dubai.
I have made the jacket even more hideous than it was to begin with - as if that was even possible.
I will be posting it to a mysterious new owner in Australia - so please let us know when it shows up at your doorstep oh new custodian.

We now have lovely gold braided rope on one sleeve and some additional stitching that makes it simply the "best" ....
We will need a photo with the new custodian before he moves it on.

Heading to Australia now huh.

Hopefully it’s destined for the mad Russian Vlad.

Come to think of it, Benoit made a rule.
The new owner needs to show a pic of him wearing it.

I know that this is a thread about the worst piece of RR-related kitsch, but revisiting that jacket (or, even though it's not RR-related, those jackets) it really makes me wonder when they date from? The embroidery us just plain awful from an artistic standpoint and had to have been created "by hand" even if sewn by machine.

My partner is an avid quilter and owns several sewing machines (I should really say computers with significant sewing function)that can embroider insanely complex and intricate designs. There is even a feature that allows you to take a photograph and convert it into its embroidery equivalent and it figures out the colors needed to do so (he doesn't have the optional stuff to do that, but his machine could if he did). I would, of course, have to be the tech end of things (and have been, in the past, since his ability to successfully use an Owner's Manual is limited. He learns by being shown and doing, not reading steps.)

You could get some really good stuff these days from your own photographs if one were so inclined.

well gents - the damn thing is now in a pizza box and is on its way to an Australian new custodian. The new owner will have to be worthy of this jacket and better show it the respect it deserves. Lots of modifications have gone into the new improved even uglier jacket - so he needs to show it off in all its glory and then add to the splendour of this jacket before sending it onto the new custodian.

I may have an old photo of when I was given the jacket which I will probably add after I find said photograph.

Be brave gents - this jacket needs to be worn with pride down the High Street. There is a socket in the pocket to connect a 9V square battery to illuminate the lights on the back of the jacket. That is a feature that does wonders for pulling chicks. As soon as they see your headlights flashing they will approach you for love and desire and other emotions that may be a bit too much to detail on this forum....

Good luck fighting off the chicks new custodian.....

I never qualified as a "Chick Magnet" so that rules me out . I did have a moment of concern when I contemplated the thought of having to wear it to a RROCA NSW Branch monthly meeting.

Patrick, time to be afraid, very afraid if I were you.

Vladimir is in an area where "chicks" are few and far between so I guess this rules him out as a recipient.

There has been a significant movement in the betting for the Australian recipient of the jacket:

Latest Betting Odds for the Jacket recipient:

I have blown out to odds of 100 to 1.

Patrick Ryan is now 5 to 1.

Vladimir Kirillov is 6 to 4 on and firm favourite.

Dear all.

I now am the custodian of “the jacket” the worst Rolls-Royce item ever.

It’s offensive to all of the senses.

However I will endeavour to modify it with poor taste, as previous custodians have done.

Here is the jacket after some tasteful (not) modifications by Omar.

Patrick,

Perhaps you could start with a formal indigenous smoking ceremony as a traditional "Welcome to Country" for the jacket.

You never know what might eventuate - ancestors past and present might be mortified and the jacket could catch fire as a consequence.

Jeff - my tongue was very firmly planted in my cheek whilst I assumed the role of pedant. We Australians didn't earn the reputation of being a "weird mob" for nothing!! We even had a movie made titled "The Weird Mob" however foreigners have problems with the nuances throughout the movie if they have never been here to understand them:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/They%27re_a_Weird_Mob_(film)

I appreciate your dilemma Patrick, it's difficult to enhance an object of such beauty. You do realise, of course, that there's an onus on the custodian to be photographed modelling the garment in public, might I suggest that you could attend a gathering of your local hell's angel chapter for the photo shoot.

And if I put something like “Harley’s suck” or something similar, across the back, maybe they would pay me even more attention

So let me get this straight?

This (hideous) jacket is being sent around the world to be photographed by as many as possible and each add another gaudy item to it as it travels,...?

Do I have it right?
