Just sent the big green dollop (my Brooklands 'R' - 66221)back up to Specialist cars to have the front ride height adjusted. It had all the suspension renewed last year (and I mean ALL the suspension - struts, springs, bushes, everything) but I didn't want the front to sit high like they do when they are correct. However, the roads round here are atrocious, pot holes, subsidence, terrible over banded repairs the works, and I must admit, though I tried hard to ignore the truth, it did hit the bump stops a fair few times. Also, while I really liked the lowered look, it did make the car look tired... The final straw was getting it out of the garage the other day and turning the opposite direction to the way I normally go and I thought I was going to rip the front bumper clean off! So, back it went on Wednesday morning (collected) and it was returned this afternoon (my choice, couldn't accept delivery before) and while it now looks a bit too high at the front for my tastes, it does, I must admit, drive MUCH better! Apparently, to get the low ride height I wanted last year, no shims at all were used and now she has just the one thin one but it is so much higher. But, the steering is lighter by far, and the camber has gone which can't have been good for the new tyres, also, I took it down the poshest area in Torquay, which, just by chance happens to have the worst roads in the entire 'bay and the car was transformed! No crashing or banging as the suspension bottomed out and over all these potholes and depressions in the road, she glided in a most serene way. I will get used to the looks... in time... and if I don't look! And the price for this work? Nothing! Paul (the boss there) did say when I had it done that he would have it corrected for me free of charge but after a year, I was impressed. The chap who delivered her back was the chief mechanic (on his way to look at/pick up another of our cars in the area) and I felt so guilty that I had nothing more than £2 to give him as a tip. David, Consult the manual for ride height settings, or compare photos by searching the net. If the car is within specs of the book, or looks like others via many photo comparisons, just go with it. You can't see the difference or what it looks like from the drivers seat, but you CAN feel the difference. Your obvious pleasure in driving the car now surely outweighs what it looks like in your driveway when you are looking at it. This is the way your car was meant to transport you, not the banging and crashing you have been putting up with. If you drive it and want to enjoy your driving. Go with it. In regards to being embarrassed. Go back to the workshop and take a case or two of beer or spirits and hand them out to the boys, or offer to take them to their local for a beer and a burger after work. I have been there , and if you don't get that feeling off your chest it will haunt you for ever mate. I finally paid a debt like this, it wasn't money, it was just a thank you after being burdened with it for over 5 years mate. You will feel so much better. And you will enjoy driving your car even more with a clear conscience. | ||

I do like this forum, you guys all speak so much sense. I shall sort something out with them - I did e-mail Paul and suggest he took some money from me for the 'coffee fund' but he declined and the sarky bugger suggested that there was no point in him remembering my card details as he'd maxed it out at 20 grand ages ago! Too close to the truth for comfort! But they are 'good people' and I shall get something for them to say 'thank you' I have previously given tubs of chocolates and Easter eggs last, er, Easter! To be fair to the car, the crashing and banging was only on really rough roads but, obviously 'not right' but, it looked so good low! Now, it drives ten times better and I am getting used to the looks: I keep nipping outside to have a look at it and I am getting used to the increased ride height, specially since I know it is now 'correct'. | ||

It's been requested to be used in (another) photo shoot tomorrow, so I will get some decent pictures of it including with its fancy new (and stupidly expensive) wing vents. You can all 'ooh and aah' over how wonderful she looks!  Of course, this all depends on if I can remember how to post pictures here and re-size stuff so it could be a long wait. The car is smart, no one ever said I was.... | ||

Just resize to a maximum DPI of 640 x480 and you will be fine mate. | ||

David To resize your pic: - right-click on your picture in your explorer - choose "edit" from te drop-down menu - your pic will be opened in the "Paint" programme - click on "resize" and enter 640 pixels wide and the height will be adjusted accordingly - save the resized pic with another name to keep the original high-res pic.
