I thought this may be of interest to anyone with a car that was first registered in the UK. It is from the Q&A section of the March 2016 edition of Practical Classics. The relevant DVLA page is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/v888-request-by-an-individual-for-information-about-a-vehicle Geoff |

Interesting. I wondered what they meant by 'historic vehicle' and whether this only applied to post-1974 vehicles. But I read the form and it is possible to obtain these details for any vehicle you own, not necessarily an old one. |

Sorry that should obviously have been pre-1974 vehicles! |

I obtained my history via the DVLA when I bought my 1976 Shadow in 2000. The cost then was £5.00 and it was very quick to arrive. However, the first owner had a private plate fitted from new and so the search was done on the age related plate, so you can have some information missing. I managed to pick up on the first owner via Jack Barclay's records, as he supplied the car new. |
