Part of the cooling system on any engine is the oil.

For people in hot places who are having slight overheating problems maybe fitting an oil cooler will tip the balance and cure the slight over heating.

The 6 cylinder engines will be easier than V8s because of the exterior oil pipes. The V8 will need a spin on filter head and an adaptor between the head and the filter.

Rob/ Would there be a problem with oil supply pressure giving the system some extra pipes to fill? I have often been tempted to fit the larger optional sump on my Spur transmission which was available!

If the pipes drain back then it's a problem. Fit oil radiator low as possible. Extra oil capacity is useful but once hot all the oil is hot.

There are very natty looking finned aluminium alloy sumps available for the gearbox.

The sump on the engine could be better with a 2 piece sump allowing the deep bit to be un bolted from the main sump for cleaning. Like some Mercedes engines.

On very big diesels like Napier Deltic 2 stroke British Railway diesel locomotives 3500bhp. Have a hand pump that pressurises the engine oil before starting first time in the day. Some had 96 dcv electric pumps. The engine also has engine driven pump.
