While reading about RR making stuff for other car makers.

Dennis make buses, fire engines and dust carts.

Manchester fire brigade in the fifties were with Dennis designing a new fire engine and RR supplied a modified Hydramatic gear box with a take off for a 900 gpm water pump. The modifications to the gear box were designed by a fire brigade engineer and a RR engineer from Crewe.

The engine used was a RR B80 5.5 litre made by BMC under licence.

The design was very successful and Dennis made a modified versions for other fire brigades.
Some of these fire engines still exist and are driven by fire engine enthusiasts.

RR turns up in funny places.
