The only spark plug recommended by Crewe since 1998 for all SY and SZ cars is of course the NGK BPR4EVX, Crewe part RH12050, a premium Platinum plug. All other brands and codes have long-since been removed from the approved list.

The BPR4EVX is now discontinued, and only old stock is available.

The spark plug now recommended for all SY and SZ cars is the NGK GR4IX, a new-generation Iridium plug expected to last at least 200,000km. It promises to be far superior even to its Platinum predecessor. Important is to apply Nickel Antiseize to the threads as always, and to remove them for inspection every 20,000 km or less mainly to exercise the threads.

The gap should be set to 1.0mm = 0.040" .

For a description of NGK plugs and their coding systems, see http://rrtechnical.info/ and select Miscellaneous and Videos chapter 202, or go straight to:

For the MkVI, R-Type, S1, S2 and S3 cars, the plug is the conventional NGK BR5ES as before. These plugs are still current stock items.
