Peter, "conditioners" are not necessary as the 50/50 glycol/water coolant provides all the protection the cooling system requires. What is important is to flush and drain the system before adding fresh coolant every two years. |

Thanks for that David. Is there a specific brand name for the 50/50 coolant? Cheers Peter |

Peter I have found the coolant supplied by the Factory to be totally adequate and not expensive. It is available from McMillens for a phone call. At least you know that is the right stuff. |

Hi Peter, Any well-known brand of ethylene glycol based antifreeze such as Castrol/Valvoline etc can be used. Do not use the pre-mixed coolants as these are usually a 33% [1 part concentrate/2 parts water] solution rather than the R-R recommended 50% [1 part concentrate/1 part water] solution. I have seen some ethylene glycol mixtures claiming a 4 year life however I personally would be wary of using these as the overall cost saving from doubling the service life from 2 to 4 years is not great whereas the cost of corrosion due to breakdown of the coolant will be many times greater - some of the the light alloy components in the cooling circuit [eg heater taps] are very prone to corrosion once the coolant begins to break down over time. |
