Over the years newbies to IETIS, and I was once one, are stymied in finding information quickly and efficiently. I was recently asked to explain how to use IETIS by someone in private, which finally motivated me to write a tutorial/primer of sorts, which I have posted on RollsRoyceForums.com (it's just easier, particularly because of all the screenshots involved). Here's the link: Using IETIS, a Primer |

Thanks Brian, I did try using IETIS a while ago but could not get it to work. I'd done this on the off chance I might buy a relevant model in the future, in addition to my Silver Shadow. I will now be looking at it again. Geoff |

Geoff, I have always presumed when IETIS was introduced as the information storage and retrieval repository that the techs who had to use it likely had to attend a workshop on how to do just that. I wouldn't expect that anyone unfamliar with it, and who's not also computer savvy, would just "get it" without any training. It took me a long while of playing with things to finally have what I consider to be "the real hang of it" and I'm still quite certain there are plenty of tricks I don't know. But what I do know, and have posted, has served me well for years now when trying to dig up information on the SZ and Seraph-Arnage era cars where IETIS is necessary to get it. What's amusing is that I did learn this never having owned a vehicle of the vintages that require the use of IETIS. It was just a tech geek exercise for me as far as learning the ins and outs. But I've used that capability to get answers for others on more occasions than I can count at this point. Brian |
