How many of us have never greased the top suspension ball joint, not in the manual. The years roll by and the latent heat rising from the brake disc up to the ball joint can dry the grease out causeing prmature wear of an other wise long lasting component. Clean the surrounding area of the set bolt and undo. Screw in the RR type grease nipple and pump 4-5 strokes with the grease gun. Remove and replace the set screw.

One important thing to note, when refitting the set bolt use sealant on the thread as the water could collect and seep into the ball joint. Bob if you need any originals I have spares and the grease gun conector to keep the car original. Bob hope your probs with the car are now sorted, did you have a satisfactory outcome. Pat. |

Car goes in for repair Monday. The garage that did the damage has admitted fault and their insurers are paying. I am ok for grease nipples. I can get the original type which I know as an oil nipple. I still have the originals. Also since then I have got hold of the correct adaptor for my gease gun. I am not one who insists upon total originality. and the grease nipples fitted are more compatible with standard UK grease guns.

Great news Bob,out of interest was the Mot carried out in the new VOSA on line device format. Over time the new system once the data base is completed will be far better. Worst thing at pressent is the hunt for some cars engine codes. |

Do a search on this site, especially for McNaught. Try a truck or farm machinery shop. These fittings are common and widely used. For example: http://au.rrforums.net/forum/messages/17/1470.html#POST3842 RT. |
