Hello, I bought, last week, the above model car. The serial number (#8374) indicates it is the last RHD (and second last in total) Le Mans produced. An early 2002 model. Is this car still subject to the head gasket problems of the earlier Red Label cars? The car is at Lance Dixon and had a PPI which indicated some rectification works but nothing serious. I am new to Bentley ownership, am a current Alfa club member, and will also join the RR/Bentley club. What independent specialists in Melbourne can service these cars? (I will say that James at Lance Dixon Bentley has impressed me with his honesty and advice thus far). Many Thanks Phil |

Hi Phil, My experience is strictly limited as live on island only 64 sq km, but we have LOTS of exotic cars, I changed head gaskets for overheating on 2002 Arnage Red Label with about 40k miles. I understand there are new/later/better head gaskets. The BIG question is do you fit them retrospectively as it is big job, Does any else have more experience, Although car was used in France, I was surprised that h/gaskets had failed as our average speed limit is 25kph! There is some suggestion that head gasket at that time (circa2000) was not up to turbo power/pressures |

Hi, unfortunately I think it may be subject to the head gasket problems. Wouldn't bother to do head gaskets just in case though. You could be OK and I haven't heard anything indicating anything extra gets damaged if one does go. Have the coolant changed and kept at 50%. Make sure all the hoses are all good, especially the heater hoses at the back of the engine. |
