Hello I was wondering if somebody can tell me what this brown covered wire is for. It looks to be a large current carrying wire. It also looks to have got pretty hot in service at the connector joint, as the insulation has cracked off near the connection. My guess is that this has been caused by heating due to a resistive connection (I can see the connector inside is corroded). One thing is for sure, it seems stuck together and I can't separate the two halves of the connector. I really need to to make it a better connection, but I want to know what I'm dealing with first. Any suggestions?. I've took a pic, which I've uploaded (I hope [1st time try]). Take a look if you can. Cheers... Rob.

Rob, I've got a mental blank as to what it's for right now It was quite a common fault on this connector. To prevent the problem reoccurring, we used to cut, remove the connector, and solder the ends together. A heavy duty connector would suffice but a well soldered joint can't be beaten really. I think there may be a supplement or bulletin about it somewhere, maybe RT may have seen it and remember where it can be found. Disconnect battery before starting work, just in case! |

Rob, Just had a quick look at a 1990 Diagram, it's a main feed & goes to lots of places inc alternator, Still haven;t remembered what other problems it gave though |

Hello Paul Thanks for the reply and a potential solution. I only discovered this connector in this condition as I was having trouble with the wpiers not wanting to park, or just making little backwards and forwards sweeps. I was checking the relays under the cover when I found this. BTW, I fixed the wipers by cleaning the wiping contact switch inside the wiper motor itself. Rather too much grease had strayed onto the tracking contacts. Cheers... Rob. |
