Since I have had my 82 Spirit, I have suspected that my starter has been going - mostly due to a sounds it makes ocassionally. The last few days something weird has been going on. I try to start the car, turn the key, and nothing happens. Nothing. No sounds. When I turn the key, All the lights light up in the info center. If I take the key out, and try again, it starts right up. Now, mind you this has only happened 3 or so times in maybe 25 starts recently (and you all know that I am something of a worry wart) but makes me wonder if I should just change the starter? My mechanic has said he could rebuild it for much cheaper as well. What do you think? (Message edited by jpsnaggs on October 01, 2006) | ||

Jason a lot happens between your fingers holding the key and the engine a'crankin. When starters fail (in my experience) they get slower and slower or else seize suddenly. When you do have to replace the unit forget overhauling it get a new Nippondenso from British Starters which you can find on the internet. These were used exclusively by RR from 1987! But in the meantime I suspect your problem is a crook relay which you will find in a bracket mounted on the firewall and hopefully still labelled. It is a plug in that you can do yourself. Get a few spares and keep them in the boot. | ||
