Intermittent fault. Mulsanne S 1990. Sometimes the wipers will not stop and park when the screen wash button is operated. Changing the position of the wiper switch has no effect. Other times they stop OK. I have noticed that sometimes the wipers only sweep 2-3 times before stopping and other times sweep about 6 times before stopping. The control module has been replaced with a second hand module, and every relay in the car has been replaced with new relays. (Preventative maintenance). Inside the motor I have cleaned the metal disc (onto which the contacts on the wiper motor connect) with switch cleaner and a toothbrush, cleaned and resprung the contacts, polished the earth connections on the motor and cleaned the connector with switch cleaner. Next I will clean the contacts on the wiper switch. Anyone have any more suggestions? Regards, Darryl |

Have you cleaned and adjusted the park microswitch on the firewall? Take the plastic cover off the motor and follow the arm up to the firewall you should find it. |

Thanks for message. I've replaced that micro switch and it's operating mechanically. |

I forgot to mention that if the ignition is turned off then on again the wipers operate normally (until the next time). I will also clean the body earth connections near the suppressors and the valance. I cleaned the module earth connection but will do it again. |

Fingers crossed I may have solved the fault. After cleaning all the chassis connections, (they needed it) I re-read Paul Yorke's post (395 3 Sept 2009) re the wiper linkage. The anti streak mechanism CD6296,(cam in English), was clogged with 36 years worth of crud and old grease. The pawl was not moving much if at all. Cleaned it all out and re-greased. Reverse wipe much more positive and wipers parking in all modes. So here's hoping. I found this video which may be useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guPPi2x75BA }} |
