Due to forgotten pw am startging again with this problem 1990 Silver Spirit II RHD Fuel injection Been laid up since covid Went to start it On inserting key in ignition .about halfway in ,got a ticking noise from the area in front of Driver and appeared to come from under top roll Ticking stopped when key removed Engine turned over ok but not firing Fuel gauge low so put in 2 gallons still got ticking unit Tried again, ticking now stopped, engine turns ,still not firing Checked spark and get positive result The manual shows several relays in engine area just in front of Drivers side, which includes a fuel pump relay Question. Could this be the problem and is a specific model/type relay reqd? If not, is it worth disconnecting fuel supply feed to see if fuel is being pumped. And what would be the best line to disconnect to check. Can send pics if it helps Oh and putting this on several similar forums so dinr be surprised if it crops up on anther one! Any thoughts/suggestions? |

When you first switch on the ignition you will hear the pumps ticking even if you're sitting in the car. Lift the cover located forward of the coils and you will see the relays and their functions are listed under the cover. I believe that two are in the start/ignition circuit. It's too cold for me to go outside and look.

No mention of battery condition. You do not have enough amperage to turn over the starter. |

Bring back starting handles. Fair point re the battery low especially if dormant for several years. Historically I found that if the battery is low the panel lights dim or extinguish when attempting to start the car.

Thanks for the rplies New Battery! Darryl Would i hear the ticking even when the key is half inserted and BEFORE moving it to on position I have a main dealer and a Well known indie a few miles from me so will contact them tomorrow to see how much the relays cost Luckily one of my friends worked in a main dealer and sent me some copies of the manual and by chance one page is the one that shows locations of realys under the bonnet RHD Oh and chassis number is MCH33893 (1990 registered) |

Hi, I've just double checked on our 1990 Mulsanne S which I imagine will have the same electrics as your car. No sounds when key inserted. When ignition switched on pumps run, (a buzzing noise) for approx 2-3 seconds. Checking for fuel at engine seems logical but I suspect the pressure may be quite high. If you don't know already this model has two electric fuel pumps in series. |

The only electrics I can think of that Activate with key insertion only, is the microswitch to select park if the key is removed when not in the park position. I’m not sure if the auto off headlights are key removal related? |
