Hi
Re 1990 Mulsanne S.
I need to replace the front engine mount on our car.
My initial thought was to place a thick length of wood under the sump. But looking at the sump the pan only covers the back half of the engine and the front of the sump is inacessable without removing many many items. Therefore I don't know if I can lift the engine by lifting under the sump.
If I lift the engine by using a block under the pulley(s) I can't access the mount.
Any thoughts or am I correct in thinking the only way to lift the engine enough to replace the mount is by using a hoist and a strap around the pulley.
Many thanks,
Darryl

Do not lift the engine using a pulley as a lifting point.. Place a wide board as forward as possible under the sump and jack up accordingly. The sump is extremely strong. Lift the engine just high enough and keep in mine the exhaust system and rear engine mounts will give some resistance.

Thanks Robert.

I tried to fit the mount this morning but the engine won't lift high enough to remove the mount. The fixing studs in the mount stick through the subframe plate by about 3mm.
I lifted the engine until the pressure required to raise the jack started to increase significantly then stopped for fear of causing (potentially expensive) damage.
There is nothing in the manual.
Looks as though it's a garage job.

ps
I looked at all the mentions of engine mount in T One Topics and although there are plenty of mentions of the mount deteriorating/separating there is nothing about removal.

Looking at the parts list I was reminded that there are two plates UR19596 and UR14588 above the mount.
I will try and remove them to see if that gives enough clearance.
