Transmission whine

Hi
The transmission on our 1990 Mulsanne S has started whining quite loudly for the first mile (or less) from cold. After then it is OK for the rest of the journey even with periodic stops/breaks.
It first started whining during the cold weather in December.
The oil, Motul Dexron 111, and the filter were replaced at the end of July last year. Since when the car has covered less than 600 miles.
Historically I have replaced the oil and filter, “bolt through filter, through tube spacer into gear box body”, a number of times over the years without problem.
I have re-checked the oil level - it may be a very little high. I will recheck again in the coming days.
I wonder if the new filter may be suspect. Any suggestions/thoughts before I empty the gear box and remove the pan.

Regards,
Darryl

May be the filter "o" rings on the pickup tube have not sealed properly allowing air in especially when the oil is cold. New "O" ring may cure it.

The kit I recently purchased from FS comes with O rings. The filter I purchased last year, (not from FS), didn't so I reused the old ring. Big Black Star to me.
Hopefully I'll be able to fit the new filter and ring in the next couple of days.

For anyone in the US, Napa sell the transmission filter at a quarter of the FS price, if you include shipping ($20).

I fitted one last summer on the advice of Wraithman and it fitted and performs perfectly.

Cliff, Yes it's a GM400.
I replaced the filter and Dexron 2 oil and the whine has disappeared. Fingers crossed it stays disappeared.
Interestingly the filter I fitted in July last year had a foam sponge material visible inside the filter.
It was for a Jaguar XJ12 fitted with a GM400 box.
Something to watch out for.

Yes I did mine a couple years ago using a generic GM400 filter kit. Seems to be working just fine.
