Dear Colleagues,

My beloved Mulsane S has got the gremlins again!

This time, the boot lid wont open, either with key or manually, and the battery is now dead.

Also, at the same time the automatic antena quit working also, ir got stuck at "half mast".

I am quite sure these problems have to do with blown fuses, but as I cannot acesse the inside of the boot, I cant even drive the car.

I have checked for u-tube info on how to manually open the boot lid, but no luck on finding out how...Only on much newer cars.

CAn anyone please suggest a way to open the lid??

Try backfeeding the cigar lighter and it may work. Car should be on a trickle charger after the battery is replaced.

On earlier cars as a last resort, you removed the spare wheel carrier, pushed out the bung for checking the tyre pressure reached in and unbolted the latch.

On later cars with spare tyre inside the boot I have read you can remove the number plate light and activate the release lever with a long screwdriver.

Based on our 1990 Mulsanne S. You should be able to unlock the boot using the key even with no power.

The boot handle operates a rod (UB43060) to the lock and when operated allows the part UB4302 to rotate allowing the boot to be opened.

The lock is behind the plastic trim inside the boot which I imagine would be difficult to remove through the hole in the boot floor.

The metal work is substantial. It may be that the rod is out of adjustment not allowing UB43060 to rotate.
Have you tried really heaving on the handle, with the boot unlocked, and pulling the boot upwards.

Dear Darryl and Jeff: I think the rod is out of adjustment, as the Mechanic was not abel to open the trunk....

About 6 months ago, th car stopped abruptly on the road. It was then trasnported to the mechanic. But the transporter, on letting the car out of the flat truck, forgot to release the cable slowly. As a result the car went down the ramp abruptly, and the back hit a number of things in the garage.

Huge dent that cost more than 2.000 Euros to fix. Paid by the trasnporter obviously.

The trunk did get a lit warped, on impact. May be that rod is crooked because of that incident,,,,
