Hi all
Quiet on here. So I thought I'd tell about my rear caliper saga.
Leaking rear caliper so ordered a seal kit thought I'll do that tomorrow lol.
Took two days just to get it off!
All the unions rounded or sheared off! I had to use an 8ft lever to undo the bolts!
Good news is I was able to drill out the sheard off ones today and fit the deal kit. Tomorrow I'll fit it back on , wish me luck 🥺.
Mike

If you need to replace the calliper pistons I believe that Kelly Opfar at Britishtoolworks makes a good quality stainless steel version.

Kelly does indeed have great stainless caliper pistons, but for a mineral oil car there is way less corrosion if any.
The line fittings should only be tightened to snug enough not to leak.
If the fittings are rounded, the flair is shot and there is a good chance the seat in the caliper is deformed making it harder to seal.
Line wrenches should always be used.

Hi Robert, yes the pistons were fine.
It was undoing the rusty unions that rounded and sheared, god knows what gorilla tightened them up before I got it.
Cheers

Well that's all back together, new caliper seals. What a cr@p design, stupid bits of pipe with inaccessible unions, all in a box with a damper shaft in the way.
I do wonder about these cars🙄.

Have just done 97 car, far more complicated than original Shadow. Was redesigned at time of Lobro cv joints/ splines fit of shafts as opposed to taper and abs. How and why, quite a task!
