Hi,
1990 Mulsanne S.
I believe that the teeth on the starter motor or the teeth on the starter ring may be damaged as on occasion there’s the dreaded gears not meshing sound and the engine doesn’t turn over.
Is one more likely to failure than the other?
I am assuming that the gear ring can be replaced if the gearbox is removed.
Regards
Darryl

Use the Bentley Heritage site as a guide and look up your car/vehicle # and the parts for your car will show up by category and you can see what's involved.

I would be far more inclined to suspect issues with the starter itself, at least until inspection shows something otherwise.

Thanks for replies.
I've looked at what's involved to a degree using manual & parts listing.
I wondered, based on historical experience of the SZ, which was more likely.
Motor preferred to ring obviously.

Because I'm not as young as I was I don't crawl under the car unless I have to.
Can anyone tell me if the starter is removable with moving lots of stuff. e.g. exhaust pipe etc.
I can't find anything in the manual.
Thanks
Regards
Darryl

On the Heritage site, you will find technical manuals http://rrtechnical.info/sz/05_sz.htm
It helps to remove the RF wheel and jack the front and safely support the car and chock the rear tires. Remove battery positive cable.
The workshop manuals will guide you.
