I don’t know if it’s Just “Lucas” (Prince of Darkness) at work here. But my instrument lights, even at full brightness are as dull as a vegan at a BBQ . In any event my question is whether or not I can substitute the old technology for brighter (more illuminating) LED’s
And has anyone had any personal experience in upgrading their in dash lights ?

Instrument bulbs wearing blue caps that fade out and getting more dark after times. I removed them all. Not that elegant but at least I can read what instruments are going to tell me.

I have changed the instrument bulbs in my 1987 Bentley8 and my 1989 Mulsanne S to LEDs. The original instrument lighting on these cars is useless but LEDs work well. I used LEDs from ebay.

Graham,

This illumination has been a problem since new as RRMC fitted 2W "push-in" bulbs. I replaced these with 5W similar bulbs with a marked improvement in illumination but still nothing to get excited about.

There are now LED replacements which has been mentioned in this forum previously and confirmed by Mark's post above. You just need one of the original bulbs to show to a bulb specialist retailer who can then match the original with a LED equivalent.
