Mark I have seen that mircoswitch on my Deep Purple Spirit. Can't help you to identify the number or the generic one but from memory its nothing special.

If you live near a town that has a hobbyist electronic store like Dick Smiths or JarCar in Australia I would not be surprised to learn that they have them in stock.

Let us know when you locate one.

Vlad, I have purchased a selection from Ebay at £3 each, will post here which fits, if any. I resent £50 for the part from the usual suppliers !.

Hello Mark - and it will stop working again. I had that problem with my '84 Spirit for years, couldn't figure why the battery was flat sometimes. Took to isolating it as routine. Then found the interior lights sometimes didn't go off ... figured it would be the simple plunger switch, being '84, so got a Lucas SMB421. It wasn't. It's something else much more sophisticated. No loose connections - so I disconnected it altogether. All the lights work on the other 3 doors still. Don't miss it.

Hi Rod, Thanks for the confidence ! Seriously, if it fails again I will remove it and investigate alternatives if any .

Mark,
When the switch fails again, as it almost certainly will, remove it then search “professional” suppliers of electronic & electrical components.
I would recommend RS components (rs-online.com), Rapidonline.com or Farnell.com. (All in the UK).
These usually have detailed spec sheets so that you stand a good change of matching your switch physically & electrically at potentially a much lower cost.
Regards
Darryl
