This is a problem with all late model cars that have a transmission control module. Get to yours before it self destructs. If you get to it in time you can replace the batteries.
It is too late for one of my cars, but I hope you can rescue your cars from the rotting battery disease.

Hi Omar, all these batteries are becoming a nightmare 🙈

I guess you know this one can be bypassed?

No alarm batteries I'm guessing . . . So they stuck/hid some in there instead! Grrrrrr

Dear Paul,
No mate o didnt know that. Pray do tell....
How can I move on form this nightmare? I would love to ditch it alltogether if possible. Not just me but all people who own the later model cars.

And what about 128584? where is that?

Thanks for your support - much appreciated.

Hi, cut the lead off the ecu. Connect the two non earth (non black probably) leads togeter.
Plug lead into the car. .

Don't tell anybody else though! Wink.

128584 is a 'see no evil' monkey.

Dear Paul,
The three wires that come out of this box are brown+red, brown+white and black+yellow.
From your instructions I am to cut the connector from the box pictured above and connect the brown wires together (and just the let the black wire hand in space) and then put the modified connector back into the socket in the car. The grey box is trashed. Is this correct?

Thanks
Omar

I will look and see if I have a photo.

It may be more obvious if you look at the colours on the car side loom.

What symptoms did you have?

Cheers.

It was an emojee. But This board just gives a number. ;( ignore it.

Paul,

If you want to put an emoji in a post, you first have to download the image as a PNG, JPG/JPEG or GIF image into a file on your computer, resize to 3cm x 3cm as below or smaller if desired and then use the Image Insert command as usual:

https://emojiisland.com/products/see-no-evil-monkey-emoji-icon

png

I keep a folder of emoji images I have used over the years for this purpose.

Just proves my justifiable hate of batteries.

Omar and Paul. I am right that a 1982 Spirit does not have this TSM unit and the only barrery is the twelve volt battery in the boot right J

This was a London Delivered RHD car.

Vladimir . . .You're safe from all that nonsense thankfully!

No Alarm batteries, no seat ecu's, no computer aided gear changes, no key fobs.

You can smile :D

Paul, I have fallen so hard for my Purple Metallic Spirit that I now am Spur hunting internationally BEFORE hideous or even reasonable prices are asked for them.

Precisely what year was the shut off point before all this gimmicky nonsense like fuel injection and memory seat capers etc put in Spirit and Spur builds? I am guessing perhaps 1984 or 1985?

Yes, 1986 FI and sears came in.

They are certainly a bargain at the moment. Go for it!!

Ha ha Paul. 86 and up way overpriced internationally given costs of novelty and unnecessary gadgetry. Seats with memory positions. To me a practically useless but annoying item.

I don't want to knock the fuel injection though as long as its all mechanical with no sensors and definitely no computer. I have never ran a price investigation on the costs involved in the FI set up though.

Carbys I can fix and I did a lot of work using large noisy Hartridge 1100 calibration machine on diesel with a totally mad old Englishman but it was all diesel.

Thanks for that info Paul

Omar,
You MIGHT be able to rescue the PCB.
Remove the batteries, get some "Servisol Super 10" switch cleaner, flood the PCB and scrub with a tooth brush. Probably have to do it several times. A final flood of Servisol then stand the PCB on end and leave to dry.
It depands how far the corrosion has gone but you may be lucky.
Darryl
