The exhaust on this car (1986) shows and smells as though the carby is set for a very rich mix..
Is there a way for an amateur to improve this??

Hi Stan, have a look at the air filter first.
Regards, Nigel.

Stan check for flooding, we have had float problems with my sons 1982 Spirit; cured by changing the floats which were half full of petrol. Also check the timing,if the car is new to you. Ours burnt its exhaust valves ,we think ,due to retarded ignition and 95 octane fuel.

I posted a reply to this, and it's disappeared! This is a test to see if it happens again!
