Ok Gents,my air con compressor has died,is it advisable to replace with the same unit or are there any other options that would slot in.Being based in Hkg reduces the availability of Bentley bits and of course temp just hit 34c.......Thanks for any help.cheers Nigel | ||

It's highly unlikely that Bentley make the compressors themselves or even have a unique design made for them. With the model number printed on the manufacturer's plate you should be able to order an OEM unit from any air con specialist for a fraction of the price of one that comes in a box marked "Bentley". | ||

The compressors on both my Bentleys are made by Sanden. look at the markings on the compressor on your car and get a replacement unit off the internet - or from any AC parts supplier. A compressor is a compressor. If you get the right model of Sanden (assuming yours is a Sanden) then get that installed - and your car will be back to work like before. Beware of alternative Sanden numbers that are different but the bolt holes all line up. the capacity needs to be the same - So your best bet is a like for like replacement. If you replace the compressor then also flush the lines and replace the reciever/drier. There will be debris is the system form the failed compressor. If you really want a perfect job, then also replace the expansion valve - although that may be an unnecessary luxury. | ||

I went through absolute Hell when the compressor bearing on my former '96 Turbo R got noisy. Was able to just find the bearing and replace it and keep the compressor. Prior to locating just the bearing, I thought I was going to have to replace it, and let me tell you, at least here in the US, it was basically unavailable from any Sanden distributor because Crewe made a deal with the devil in that that particular compressor was only available through main Bentley agents, at least here in the States. I do believe however, that Flying Spares et al, sell them, so perhaps give them a ring. | ||

Throw that compressor away and avoid throwing good money after bad. Nostalgic Air Parts in Tampa, Fl http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/ , or AMC Discount Parts in Texas http://southtexasamc.tripod.com/ , will sell you a Sanden 709 off the shelf for your car. It is a standard compressor. They are so cheap that they are not worth repairing. I bought two from Nostalgic Air. They delivered the compressors quickly and I swapped the head to suit a Crewe vehicle. I also bought a spare head to suit, so that I have a complete replacement ready from the box, but that took ages to arrive. Anyhow, swapping the head takes a few minutes only, and the gasket on a new compressor will be fine after swapping the head. RT. | ||

Dear Lluis,I was told to make sure that the system was flushed properly in case any debris made its way into the pipes from the failed compressor.Also need to change out the drier.cheers nIgel |
