I started my engine
I went to release the hand brake and it popped
out again. I pushed it in again and it stayed in ----weird
Then the engine stopped tried to restart and saw a wisp of smoke. Ignition off and battery isolated in 2 seconds. Panic over.
The hand brake cable had made a loop under the starter relay and was shorting the relay out to earth.
The spring under the car which holdes the relay lever off has fallen off and there is a small piece of a tree wedged in the exhaust mount.
Fortunately I found a spare spring that will do the job at work in the junk bin.
I don't remember running any bits of tree over.
