I want to run the engine without the Hydraulic pumps connected to anything. Do I need to remove the whole pump or will it be okay to run it with just the top bit removed (Held in by the circlip)? thanks

If it works ok then remove and blank.
If the pump is not working with the piston stuck and fully up and seized then blank off the inlet and outlet and leave in situ.
