Wood facia must be removed.

I believe you car (1969) has the earlier dashboard, so can't help, but it should be easy.

To Robert: Yes, but how. When the two screws in the wooden facia is removed, it can still not be removed. It sticks between the leather panels. Somebody tells, that the radio has to be removed?
To Geoff and Jeff: thanks for the link to user handbook. I have printed it, but it says nothing about facia removing.

The leather has a tendency to adhere to adjacent panels. You need a plastic putty knife to separate the two.

If your VIN is post 6001 and you are just removing the left hand section around the speedometer and switchbox there is a hidden screw at the very far left bottom of the wood panel under the padded section. You need to remove that padded section first in order to remove that screw.
