G'day everyone,... This is a dark day indeed! Two items to mention here,... First: about a month ago now while out on a trip with Camilla while I was on the way home I stopped at a small shopping center to grab a few things. I parked on the outer edge of the car park away from other cars as I do. While I was walking to the shops a small car with a trailer pulled into the row in front of Camilla, it was a dual row so you'd think they would drive out forward. Turns out they BACKED out and the trailer hit Camilla. Her bumper bar is pushed in on the left side about half way, there are only a few marks in the rubber to tell otherwise. Nothing seems bent so I take it I only need to undo a few bolts and slide the bar back out to line up as it should. An old guy saw it happen but he was further down the row so did'nt get the rego. Second: And this is the big one,... A couple of days ago I took the day off work so I could do the 100K service on my new daily driver. (02 N16 Nissan Pulsar) I started Camilla as I have to take her out of the workshop as she is parked over the top of my lift. All is well,... except the hydraulic pumps keep clattering,... Anyway she gets warmed up and I go to move her out,.. and the brake peddle is soft,... so soft I can push it all the way down to the floor! I cheak the fluid levels in the tank and it IS DOWN to the high marker but was at the top of the sight glass. There is no puddle under Camilla but the BIG RED FLAG for me was there are NO warning lights! So I am thinking maybe seals in the pumps are going OR, the sphere's have/are going bad? She dose have brakes but they are soft, no warning lights on either system 1 or 2. I can push the peddle to the floor and was not able to do so before. I am not a happy camper right now. Graham. |

The probable cause is air in the master cylinder. This was fitted to early cars to give the pedal some "feel". It was removed from later cars and replaced with a rubber thingy. I replaced mine 20(??) years ago after a couple of frights going down steep hills, and never regretted it. Someone will point you at instructions somewhere on the web. Alan D. |

No master cylinder on Grahams SSII. Do the warning globes work. If you try to start it in gear they should all light to test. Have you done a pump down test. The pressure switches are pretty crude and are not highly calibrated. They can be rebuilt. It does sound like spheres or pressure valves |

Can you feel the pulses coming through the steele lines on the pumps? It may have broken a pushrod. The later pushrods were more robust but still possible. |

G'day everyone,.... Brakes worked perfect when parked. If a push rod had broken, would'nt a warning light come on due to low pressure then? Graham. |

Warning lamp will come on due to lack of pressure. Using a pressure gauge will help you sort out pressure issues. |

I agree with Robert, pressure gauge test is the way ahead or you will waste both time and money. Mark |

http://au.rrforums.net/forum/messages/17001/42474.html?1644777681 This may help cripes seems like yesterday 2022. Btw the pump push rods will be the later modified type on your car, not know to fail. Cause of pump piston sticking is the flame trap blocked not allowing foreign unwanted fumes moisture etc to be burnt. Tell tell of a blocked flame trap is engine oil leaks due to no crank case depression. |
