I want to bench test the rear window Piper motor on my 1968 Fixed-Head Coupe. There are two cables going to the motor. Each cable has a black and red wire. When I apply a negative feed to the black wire and positive to the red wire in one cable, I only get the relays clicking (and no motor movement). Doing the same on the other cable (with it's black and red wire), I get nothing (relays/motor). I am thinking the two cables must be connected in some way for the motor to run when supplying the - and +! HELP! Richard |

Hi Richard There are 4 wires going into Piper motor. The two "fatter" are red feed (+) and black earth (-) The other two thinner wire are the earth for activating motor to turn either way (up/down) or on fixed head (in/out) These two thin wires get their feed internally in motor via main feed wire. When either of these are earthed this causes motor to run either way. On drop head cars there are limit switches that the earth runs through before the actual door switch puts feed to earth. Not sure on fixed head rear 1/4 windows as frame limits travel? Normally if motor clicks, but does not turn means internal relay at fault. Incidentally i own '73 fixed head in silver mink with fawn everflex. Has only covered 30200 miles and one family owned. |
